Modern nation states have to depend upon the cooperation and assistance of other states. Today even a big and powerful state self. reliant and industrial production cannot adopt the policy of isolation. The major areas of inter. dependence in this modern period are security concerns, managing economic interdependence, strengthening the United Nations and strengthening the rule of law worldwide.

Political cooperation between states is increasing at a very fast speed. In 1971 India helped Bangladesh to solve her crisis. India got involved in a war with Pakistan. The Tamil problem in Sri Lanka has not left India undisturbed. When Iraq attacked neighbouring Kuwait in 1990, 26 countries under the leadership of America helped Kuwait by defeating Iraq and liberated Kuwait. Politically the movement of people from one country to another has brought white, black, yellow all the people under one sovereign authority. For example, a large number of Indians, other Asians and Africans who today live in the U.K., U.S.A. and in many other countries rub shoulders with local people and are indicative of one global order.

Economic cooperation has led to the emergence of one international market place. People are interacting and trying to solve problems, such as poverty, starvation, population explosion, floods and earthquakes. This has resulted in people of various nationalities working together.
