Soil profile: Soil profile is the arrangement of the soil into layer-like horizons which are physically, chemically and biologically different from each other. There are four parts of the soil profile.

The four main horizons A E B and C are important.

A-Horizon: It is the upper most horizon and rich in organic matter. It is also called the top soil.

E-Horizon: The clay parts and oxide of aluminium and iron are removed from this horizon by downward seeping water leaving behind pure grains of sand or coarse silt. This is also called the sub soil layer.

B-Horizon: The B-Horizon receives the clay particles, aluminium and iron oxide as well as organic matter washed down from the A and E horizon. It is a weathering rock layer.

C-Horizon: It is not considered part of soil. It consists of the parent minerals matter of the soil. It is also called the bed rock layer or unweathered parent rock.
