North Indian Rivers	Peninsular Rivers
1. Rivers of Northern India have their origin in the mountains of the north. They are fed by the rains and melting snow. They are called perennial rivers.	1. Rivers of peninsular India have their origin either in the Central Highlands or in the Western Ghats and are fed by in the rains. They are called non- perennial rivers.
2. Being perennial rivers they are a source of irrigation and suitable for multi purpose dams.	2. Being seasonal in character they are not suitable for irrigation, navigation and multipurpose projects.
3. Rivers of north India are responsible for the deposition of fine alluvium in the northern plains making them most extensive and fertile. Important rivers are Indus and Ganga and their tributaries and the Brahmputra.	3. Rivers of the peninsular region have a long course in plateaus. Narmada and Tapi are the exceptions. Major rivers are Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna and Kavari. They have made the fertile deltas.
4. Rivers of north India have a long course in mountains. So they are able to make spectacular features like V-shaped Valley, I-shaped Valley, Gorges etc.	4. No such spectacular features are made by the rivers of peninsular India.
